Quand Adina Reay s’est lancée il y a quelques années, j’étais un peu dubitative. Il n’y avait alors pas beaucoup de marques de luxe pour les bonnets profonds donc les quelques concurrents pouvaient rapidement être comparés, et dans la mesure où Adina Reay démarrait au 85, je ne me sentais pas vraiment concernée. Mon intérêt pour la marque est né quand elle a introduit des dos en 80, et j’ai commencé à m’intéresser de plus près à ce qu’elle faisait.
Le body Ava m’avait tapé dans l’oeil et j’étais ravie de pouvoir l’essayer chez Selfridges pendant un séjour à Londres… Et déçue car sa coupe ne me convenait pas, la taille est très serrée et il est assez court. J’ai aussi essayé le soutien-gorge Fran qui était plutôt grand dans le dos (je ne me souviens plus si j’avais essayé un 85 ou un 80) avec des bonnets très bien coupés.
Le problème, c’est qu’avec mon budget d’étudiante, pour la lingerie de luxe j’avais tendance à aller vers des marques comme Harlow & Fox ou Mimi Holliday dans la mesure où je savais que leurs produits m’iraient et où j’appréciais particulièrement leur sens esthétique. De fait, je n’ai pas vraiment eu l’occasion d’essayer Adina Reay, dont le style est plus minimaliste et subtil, et dont je connaissais moins bien les coupes.
When Adina Reay came out a few years ago I was a bit skeptical. There was not a lot of luxury full bust brands back then so the few competitors were easy to compare, and with Adina Reay’s size range then starting at a 32 band, I did not really get the point. My interest rose when they introduced 30 bands, and I started to look more closely at what they were doing.
The Ava bodysuit really caught my interest, and I was delighted to be able to try it in Selfridges during a trip to London… And heartbroken that it would not work for me due to its lack of stretch in the waist and how short it was in the torso. I also tried Fran and while the band was roomy (I do not remember whether I tried a 30 or a 32) I really liked the fit of the cups.
Thing is, having a limited student budget, when it came to luxury my go-to were Harlow & Fox and Mimi Holliday because I knew they would fit me and I was really into their aesthetic. Thus I did not really get the opportunity to give another try to Adina Reay, whose style was sleeker and more subtle, and whose fit I was not sure enough about.
Tout cela a changé avec mon plus-si-récent changement de style. J’ai commencé à rechercher des marques éthiques/de luxe qui me plaisent et qui produisent ma taille, et je n’ai pas trouvé grand chose. Ajoutez à cela ma poitrine projetée avec une implantation étroite, une forme qui correspond mieux aux marques françaises et polonaises, pas franchement connues pour leur style androgyne, et je n’étais pas très optimiste. C’est alors que je me suis souvenue d’Adina Reay, et notamment de leur ligne Fran. J’ai jeté un oeil à leurs collections plus récentes et aux avis de blogueur.se.s désormais plus nombreux, et j’ai pensé que cela pourrait fonctionner. Des couleurs audacieuses aux textures originales, j’étais conquise.
Naturellement, quand la marque m’a proposé de m’envoyer un ensemble pour que j’écrive mon avis, j’ai immédiatement accepté. Je leur ai transmis ma liste de coups-de-coeur et je les ai laissés choisir l’ensemble qu’ils m’enverraient, ce qui est la façon dont je préfère procéder, autant pour l’effet surprise que par curiosité sur ce que les marques souhaitent mettre en avant.
This changed with my not-so-recent-anymore shift in style. I started to look for ethical/luxury options that would appeal to me and would come in my size, and I found next to nothing. Add to that my projected, narrow-rooted bust that gets on best with Polish and French brands, which are not exactly known for their androgynous vibe, and I was not very optimistic. Then I remembered Adina Reay, and their Fran collection in particular. I had a look at their most recent collections and at the now more numerous bloggers’ reviews and I thought this might work. From audacious colours to interesting textures, I was hooked.
Naturally, when they offered to gift me a set for review purposes, I accepted right away. I gave them a shortlist of my favourite sets and let them pick the one they would send me, which is how I prefer to proceed, as much for the element of surprise as out of curiosity about what brands want bloggers to review.
L’ensemble Sam m’a rapidement été envoyé, emballé dans une belle boîte griffée. La première chose qui m’a frappée a été la couleur: elle est beaucoup plus vive en réalité que sur les images de la marque. Ensuite est venue la broderie, que j’ai trouvé plus travaillée et originale que je ne le pensais. Les broderies et dentelles non-florales ne sont pas encore très répandues en lingerie, et encore moins chez les marques pour bonnet profonds, ce qui rend Sam vraiment unique.
A cause du motif de la broderie, je craignais de la trouer par inadvertence en passant mon doigt au travers des parties non-doublées, sur le haut des bonnets et sur les côtés de la culotte. Heureusement, j’ai réussi à l’éviter pour l’instant, même si je recommanderais de faire attention en le mettant, en l’enlevant et en le lavant à la main, d’autant plus que le tulle est aussi assez délicat.
Les matériaux sont extrêmement doux et bien que je craignais que la broderie gratte un peu, ce n’est pas du tout le cas. J’ai lavé à la main le soutien-gorge une fois et la culotte plusieurs fois et je n’ai remarqué aucun changement.
Sam was shipped to me swiftly, packed in a gorgeous branded box. The first thing that struck me was the colour: it is much brighter in real life than on the brands’ pictures. The second thing was the embroidery, that appeared to be much more intricate and original than I thought.
Non-floral lace and embroidery are not very common in lingerie, and even less among full bust brands, which makes Sam really unique.
Due to the pattern of the embroidery, I was really afraid of pulling a hole in the parts where it’s not lined with mesh, at the top of the cups and on the sides of the knickers. Fortunately, I am glad to report that this has not happened, although I would recommend to proceed with caution when putting this set on and off and when hand washing it, especially since the mesh is quite thin as well.
The fabrics used are exceptionally soft and while I feared for some scratchiness from the embroidery, it is not the case at all. I have hand washed the bra once and the knickers a few times and I have not noticed any change.
Le soutien-gorge est plongeant et semi-rembourré avec une construction en 3 parties, ce qui en fait une bonne option si vous aimez la forme des soutiens-gorge rembourrés mais que vous avez besoin de flexibilité en haut du bonnet. Comme avec tous les plongeants rembourrés que j’ai pu essayer, j’aurais besoin de plus de projection à la base du bonnet. Mais alors que ce manque de projection est habituellement source d’inconfort, je peux porter Sam toute la journée sans être gênée. Cela me rappelle le soutien-gorge Clara de Panache, avec lequel j’ai un problème similaire mais que je trouve quand même très confortable. Les baleines sur le côté ne rentrent pas dans la peau, ce qui en fait un de mes soutiens-gorge favoris pour les jours où j’ai envie de quelque chose de spécial sans pour autant sacrifier le confort.
Les seuls petits soucis que j’ai avec Sam sont que les bretelles sont placées un peu trop vers l’extérieur et ont donc tendance à glisser, et que les armatures sont légèrement trop larges et hautes pour moi.
Je pense que Sam fonctionnerait très bien pour les poitrines avec une implantation et une projection moyennes, même si ma propre poitrine s’en accommode très bien. J’aine particulièrement les bretelles doubles et le fait que la marque n’ait pas ajouté de noeuds ou de décorations superflus, permettant à la couleur et à la broderie de vraiment ressortir.
The bra is a semi-padded plunge shape with a 3-part construction, which is a good option if you like the shape of padded bras but need some flexibility at the top of the cups. As with pretty much all the padded plunges I have tried I would need more projection at the bottom of the cups. But while this lack of projection usually results in some discomfort, I can wear Sam all day without feeling it. This reminds me of Clara by Panache, with which I have a similar fit issue but that is very comfortable to me regardless. The side boning does not dig in either, making it one of my go-to when I want to dress up a bit while still feeling comfortable.
The only minor inconveniences I experience with it is that the straps are set a bit too far apart for me and thus tend to slip down for time to time; and that the underwire is a tad wider and taller than I would need.
I think Sam would work wonderfully for busts with an average root and projection, although it fares well with my own bust. I particularly like the double straps and the fact that the brand did not add any unnecessary bows or embellishments, which enables the gorgeous colour and the striking pattern to pop.
Adina Reay a la réputation de tailler grand dans le dos, mais une fois étiré Sam mesure 31 pouces, ce que je considère comme acceptable dans la mesure où les 80 sont sensés mesurer 30 pouces, bien que je préfère les coupes plus ajustées. Le maintien reste excellent mais discret, ce que j’apprécie toujours au vu du temps que je passe assise à ne triturer les méninges à la bibliothèque.
La culotte me va un peu moins bien, mais c’est un problème que je rencontre fréquemment à cause de ma morphologie. Le tulle, bien que confortable car doux et fin, ne reste pas bien en place et j’ai du coup très souvent besoin de réajuster la culotte au fil de la journée. La finesse du tissu rend ce problème supportable, mais cela reste agaçant. Bien que les tulles plus épais soient moins sophistiqués, ils me sembleraient plus adaptés et pratiques. L’avantage de ce tulle très fin, c’est qu’il rend cette culotte pratiquement invisible sous les vêtements, et que la bande pliée à la taille ne rentre pas du tout dans la peau.
Globalement la lingerie d’Adina Reay m’a vraiment séduite et je n’hésiterais pas à recommander cette marque à mes amies faisant une taille similaire et cherchant quelque chose qui sorte de l’ordinaire. Les motifs non-floraux semblent être de plus en plus à la mode dans la lingerie en ce moment, et il me tarde de voir comment les autres marques pour bonnets profonds vont interpréter cette tendance.
Adina Reay has a reputation of running big in the back bands, but Sam measures 31 inches when stretched, which I think is acceptable for a 30 although I do prefer a tighter fit. The support is still great while remaining unnoticeable, which I always appreciate considering the amount of time I spend sitting and having mental breakdowns in the library.
The bikini works a bit less well for me, but I do have a hard-to-fit shape. The mesh, while comfortably soft and thin, does not stay well in place and I find myself having to readjust it many times throughout the day. The thinness of it does mean that the induced wedgies are not terribly uncomfortable, but it is still a bit annoying. While power mesh is less sophisticated, I think it would make for a more practical alternative. The plus side is that these knickers are pretty much invisible under clothes, and that the folded waist band does not dig in at all.
Overall I am really impressed with Sam, and I would not hesitate to recommend Adina Reay to my full busted friends looking for something special. Non-Floral patterns seem to be a rising trend in lingerie right now, and I am excited to see what other full bust brands come up with.
