La marque Boux Avenue a été lancée au moment où j’ai commencé à m’intéresser à la lingerie et à l’époque, j’habitais en France et ils ne livraient pas en dehors du Royaume-Uni. Cela m’attristait beaucoup car leurs designs étaient alors exactement ce que je cherchais: jeunes, tendance sans en faire trop, abordables et disponibles dans ma taille.
Le temps a passé, mes goûts ont changé et je me suis intéressée à des marques plus originales. Quand j’ai appris que Boux Avenue allait ouvrir une branche à Nottingham, j’ai songé à y postuler pour un poste de vendeuse mais j’ai renoncé, pensant que mon Master m’occuperait beaucoup, ce qui est effectivement le cas. La boutique a ouvert en Septembre 2018 mais je n’y suis pas allée avant Décembre. La raison principale est que je suis maintenant légèrement en dehors de leurs tailles, et par ailleurs je préfère donner mon argent à de plus petites marques.
Boux Avenue came along about at the same time I got into lingerie, and back then I was still living in France and they did not deliver outside of the UK. This broke my heart as their designs were everything I was longing for: youthful, trendy without being fussy, affordable and they came in my size.
Some time passed, my tastes evolved and I steered away from Boux Avenue towards edgier brands. When I learned that they were going to open a store in Nottingham, I contemplated applying there but ended up not to for fear of lack of time during my year of Masters, which turned out to be a wise decision. The store opened in September 2018 but I didn’t visit it until December, with the main reason being that I am now slightly out of their size range, and the second one being I’d rather support smaller brands.
Quand je me suis finalement forcée à braver les foules d’avant Noël pour voir à quoi ressemblent les produits Boux Avenue en personne, j’étais d’humeur à me faire plaisir, d’autant que ma grand-mère m’avait mandatée pour me trouver un cadeau de Noël à mettre sous le sapin. L’intérieur du magasin m’a beaucoup plu, notamment le système de tiroirs et les différents éclairages dans les cabines d’essayage. Beaucoup des pièces présentées m’ont paru un peu trop basiques, mais j’ai quand même trouvé deux ensembles à mon goût: l’ensemble brodé Bouxtique dont je vous parle ici ainsi que le “Velvet Lace” que je présenterai sans doute seulement sur Instagram. Je pense avoir essayé un autre ensemble mais je ne me souviens pas duquel.
Je dois dire que les tailles étaient plutôt aléatoires. Le Bouxtique était trop grand de partout en 85I alors que je ne pouvais pas fermer le Velvet Lace. J’ai fini par prendre le Bouxtique en 80I et le Velvet Lace en 90H, ce qui a étonné la vendeuse qui a proposé de me mesurer. J’ai refusé car je ne fais confiance qu’à de très rares enseignes pour ce qui est de mesurer correctement.
When I eventually got myself to brave the Christmas-shopping crowd to see what their designs were like in person, I was in a strong treat-yourself mood, not to mention my grandmother had commissioned me to find myself a gift to put under the tree. I really liked the store layout, from the drawers to the different lightnings in the fitting rooms. A lot of the pieces they showcased were now a bit too basic for me, but I did find two sets I liked: the Bouxtique Embroidered set I am going to review as well as the Velvet Lace set I probably won’t review. I think I tried another set but I don’t remember which.
I have to say that the sizing was all over the place. The Bouxtique was too big allover in 32G while I couldn’t do the Velvet Lace up. I ended up going for a 30G in the Bouxtique and for a 34FF in the Velvet Lace, which led the store assistant to offer me a fitting. I declined since I only trust myself and very select stores for fittings.
Bien que j’ai apprécié le joli emballage cadeau (belle boîte, pétales de rose et papier de soie), je me demande un peu si c’est écologique dans la mesure où la boîte s’est avérée trop fragile pour être réutilisée donc cela semble faire beaucoup de déchets superflus. Cela faisait bien sous le sapin, ceci dit.
J’ai surtout choisi Velvet Lace parce que c’est un design sans bretelle inhabituel et pas ennuyeux et qu’il semblait confortable quand je l’ai essayé. Après l’avoir porté un certain temps, cependant, je ne suis pas très fan de ses baleines et armatures rigides, et c’est aussi mon problème avec Bouxtique.
Ce qui m’a attirée vers Bouxtique, ce sont sa magnifique broderie brillante et ses bandes de dentelle qui pourraient être d’un bel effet pour habiller un décolleté. J’aimais beaucoup l’idée de la culotte brésilienne qui était une mini-culotte flottante, mais je hais les coutures centrales donc j’ai pris la culotte taille-haute.
While I appreciated the beautiful gift packaging (glossy box, rose petals and tissue paper), I wonder a bit about the environmental side of it as the box did not hold up enough to use to be repurposed, so it seems like a lot of potential waste. It nonetheless did look good under the Christmas tree.
I mostly picked Velvet Lace because it was an unusual and non-bland strapless design and it appeared comfortable upon first try. After wearing it for a while, though, I must admit I am not too fond of its rigid boning and underwires and that is also my issue with the Bouxtique set.
What drawn me to it was its eye-catching, shimmery embroidery and its lace strapping detail that could be interesting for lingerie as outerwear looks. I really liked the idea of the floating brazilian briefs which are basically mini tap pants, but my hatred for central seams made me go for the high-waisted briefs.
Bien que j’aime beaucoup cet ensemble de devant, je trouve l’arrière un peu trop simple, ce qui est cohérent avec son prix. J’aurais probablement ajouté une découpe à l’arrière de la culotte et un détail de dentelle au dos du soutien-gorge. Bien que les éléments dorés soient jolis, ils ne rattrapent pas le déséquilibre entre l’avant et l’arrière.
Ceci dit, j’ai trouvé les tissus de bonne qualité par rapport au prix, et je pense que cet ensemble durera assez longtemps. J’ai aussi apprécié que ce design soit exclusif aux bonnets E et plus car c’est plutôt rare pour un si bel ensemble.
Je dois revenir sur le prix. Avec la remise étudiants, j’ai payé £55 (environ 70€) pour les deux ensemble en dehors des soldes, ce qui m’a impressionnée car cela pourrait être le prix d’un seul ensemble. La politique éthique de Boux Avenue semble être alignée sur celle d’autres enseignes similaires. La page Commerce Ethique de leur site est assez succincte et ne donne pas beaucoup d’information sur les pratiques de la marque, ce qui est courant mais frustrant. De fait, ce n’est pas l’achat qui m’a le plus enthousiasmée l’année dernière. J’imagine mal Boux Avenue faire preuve de très mauvaises conduites, mais plus de transparence serait un vrai avantage à mon avis.
Although I really like it from the front, I find it a little lacklustre from the back, which made its relatively low price point apparent. I would probably have added a cut-out at the back of the brief and a lace detail on the back of the bra. As nice as the gold hardware is, it does not make up for the lack of balance between the front and the back in my opinion.
That being said, I found the materials to be really good quality for the price point, and I expect this set to last long. I also liked the fact that this set was exclusive to DD+ sizes as this is quite rare for such a beautiful design.
I have to mention the price point. Being a student, I paid £55 for both sets outside of the sales period which I think is quite impressive, as that could easily be the price of one set. Boux Avenue’s Ethical Standards seem to be pretty average and on par with other similar retailers. The Ethical Trading page is quite succinct and does not inform a lot on the company’s actual policies, something that I find very common and very frustrating. As a result, this is not the purchase that made me feel the best last year. I doubt Boux Avenue is straight up horrendous regarding Ethics, but more transparency would go a long way in my opinion.
La coupe est assez unique dans la mesure où le bonnet en deux parties avec couture verticale est associée à une forme plongeante, au lieu de la forme droite habituelle. Malheureusement, de fait, ma poitrine s’échappe par le haut après quelques heures. Quand je mets ce soutien-gorge, il semble bien aller hormis un petit manque de place en haut des bonnets. Mais au fil de la journée, cela se dégrade. Je trouve aussi que l’élastique du dos est plutôt rigide et bien que le dos ne soit pas trop petit, j’ai l’impression qu’il me coupe. Il me semble que si les bonnets étaient plus couvrants et projetés, je rencontrerais moins de problème mais en l’état, je dois faire attention à ce que je porte au-dessus.
Les armatures me posent également problème, je les trouve trop rigides, surtout si l’on considère que ce soutien-gorge s’adresse à la frange la plus petite des bonnets profonds (E à I). Ce n’est donc pas mon soutien-gorge le plus confortable, ni le plus facile à porter et à associer.
La culotte rattrape un peu l’ensemble car même si elle a tendance à bouger un peu, elle ne rentre pas agressivement dans les fesses et c’est toujours ça de pris.
The fit is quite unique, as the two parts cup with a vertical seam is associated with a plunging shape rather than the usual half-cup shape. Alas, as a result, I find myself falling out at the top after a few hours of wear. When I first put the bra on, it seems like a pretty good fit, if a little tight at the top of the cups. But throughout the day, it just doesn’t make the cut. I also find the elastic of the band to be quite rough and to cut in although the band is not too tight in itself. I feel like if the cups had slightly more coverage and projection at the top, I would encounter less issues but as it is, I have to be wary of what I wear over this bra.
Another problem I have is that the underwires are just too rigid and strong, especially considering that this set is geared towards the lower-end of the full bust demographic (DD-G). All in all, this is not my most comfortable and easy-to wear bra.
The knickers redeem the set a bit as while they do move around a bit, they never end up giving me major wedgies.
Je pense que Boux Avenue est une marque intéressante quand on commence à s’intéresser à la lingerie car ils ont des designs sympa et un bon rapport qualité-prix, mais les problèmes de coupe et de taille que j’ai rencontrés font que je ne me vois pas vraiment acheter à nouveau chez eux, sauf si je tombe vraiment amoureuse d’un modèle en particulier. J’apprécie vraiment qu’ils proposent des dos en 75, ce qui devient malheureusement de plus en plus rare. Entre leurs tailles plutôt inclusives et leurs designs à la mode, Boux Avenue est un bon choix pour les personnes souhaitant mettre un peu d’originalité dans leur tiroir à dessous sans avoir à commander sur internet. C’est donc une option populaire auprès des adolescent-e-s et des étudiant-e-s.
I think that Boux Avenue is a good brand for lingerie beginners as they have interesting designs and good quality for the price point, but the fit issues and inconstancies I have encountered with both of my sets will probably deter me from buying again from them, lest I fall in love with a piece in particular. I do appreciate that they offer 28 bands, which is sadly becoming a rarity. From their relatively inclusive size range to their trendiness, Boux Avenue appears to be a great choice for those who want to upgrade their lingerie drawer without having to order online. They thus appear to be a popular option for teenagers and students.
